It's that time again, time for you to submit your rules change suggestions for the Rules Committee to consider for inclusion in the 2012 Rulebook.
Committee is comprised of several racers, officials and technical consultants. Every suggestion is reviewed from all aspects by each group before being voted on and passed onto the Director of Operations, Kevin Elliott, for final approval on November 1st, 2011. To insure adequate time to discuss your suggestions, all input should be received in Fort Worth by October 21, 2011.
Among the topics being discussed this year for CCS classes is to allow Unlimited SuperSport an exemption to run any tire, slick or DOT.
ASRA topics include the move from SuperStock to 1000cc SuperBikes and recalculating minimum weight accordingly.
The 2012 Rules Committee is authorized to consider any recommendation submitted by a licensed CCS or ASRA racer, so that means you should let them hear your opinion on anything you believe they should discuss before making their final recommendations on Nov. 1.
As always, should you have any questions about this information, please contact us by email or phone.
The October 22-23 round at Firebird International Raceway has been cancelled and the November event has been moved up a week to November 12-13.
September 6, 2011: Effective immediately, the lap time service provided by myracingbio.com for CCS/ASRA events has been discontinued.
Please read the official announcement, as well as a temporary solution, on our Timing and Scoring page.
Registration for this weekend's races at New Jersey Motorsports Park will open on Thursday, August 11th, from 3pm until 7pm and again on Friday Aug. 12th from 7am until 7pm.
The three Sunday races July 24th at Blackhawk which were postponed due to facility curfew will be run on Saturday, August 20 at 4:00pm. The races involved are:
Only those riders who are already entered will be allowed to participate. Special arrangements will be made for two short rounds of practice on Saturday afternoon before the races.
All riders will be required to have an event credential and the races will revert to the posted 7 laps each as on the original schedule.
July 18, 2011: It's East versus West in a racing Shootout this weekend, and it's anybody's guess who will end up on top! Championships hang in the balance in all of the Michelin Pro Series classes, sanctioned by ASRA, after the last races. Everything will come together in Illinois at Blackhawk Farms Raceway, July 23th and 24th.
So far this season, MidWest riders have dominated both Michelin Pro Series (ASRA and Team Challenge) with a sprinkling of Mid-Atlantic and SouthEast racers mixed in. Eastern riders fighting for points leads must make the trek to Blackhawk to upset the apple cart. Currently leading are Ray Hofman (WI) and Joel Spalding (IL) in ASRA, and Meghan Ryan's Stiles Racing (WI) in the Team Challenge. The races this weekend may make or break the championships. Only time will tell.
"As announced at the start of the season, Amateurs can race in the ASRA Series beginning this year, but few from the MidWest have taken advantage of that new opportunity yet." said Kevin Elliott, head of American SportBike Racing. "We're really looking forward to increasing the fields on the Amateur side of ASRA at Blackhawk this weekend. Also, at only $25, it's very affordable now to upgrade a license to ASRA status."
In addition to the excitement of the Michelin Pro Series events, Championship Cup Series racers and fans alike will be treated to a flood of races at Blackhawk. Since it is a "Twin Sprints" event, all CCS riders have the opportunity to race each class twice - once on Saturday and again on Sunday.
Learning Curves will be hosting a license clinic on Saturday which includes classroom as well as on-track instruction. New graduates of their school will be eligible for Sunday races.
Gates at Blackhawk will be open 24 hours beginning at 6pm on Thurs., June 21st.
After a tough start to the season, Eric Helmbach & Alex Shaw brought the Chester Auto Repair BMW back to the top of the Team Challenge podium at the 11th Annual VIR Festival of Speed in Alton, Virginia.
Meanwhile in Loudon, New Hampshire, during the 88th Annual Loudon Classic, Laconia Bike Week 2011, Shane Narbonne and Rick Doucette show that they have what it takes in ASRA Pro.
Competitors in both Michelin Pro Series will continue to battle it out in five weeks at Blackhawk Farms Raceway, July 23-24, 2011. Don't miss the action!
Come join us June 18th & 19th as we celebrate the 11th Annual VIR Festival of Speed including Championship Cup Series racing & Round 5 of the Michelin Pro Team Challenge. This is also the weekend when we remember our former SE Race Director and friend Paul Farrell.
The weekend begins with the Racers Practice Day and Race Licensing School on Friday, June 17, hosted by Aaron Stevenson's Cornerspeed.
Friday afternoon rider registration will be open (2nd Floor of the Tower) to get a jump on the race paperwork and tech inspection segments. Pre-entered riders can register earliest beginning at 1:00pm. Registration for everyone (post and pre entries) officially begins at 4:00pm and will close at 6 o'clock Friday evening.
Our gate clerks will be selling full weekend credential passes beginning at 4:00pm on Thursday afternoon (June 17th) and will be open 24 hours for your convenience. REMINDER: The credential fees must be paid in cash since no phone line is available at the gate for running credit cards.
For those new to V.I.R., please be sure and review the track map (we race the North Course), rules & regulations and updated weekend schedule from our V.I.R. page.
The Championship Cup Series and the ASRA Michelin Pro Series return to Summit Point Circuit's Main Course for the Mid Atlantic Cyclefest Memorial Day Weekend, May 28th thru May 31st.
"Summit Point has been one of our mainstay tracks for over 25 years, and it's always a pleasure to put on races there." said CCS' owner Kevin Elliott. "Many improvements to the facilities have been made over the winter, and we look forward to seeing what has been done so far."
The events begin on Saturday with a Racers "Test and Tune" Practice Day, hosted by CCS, and a Mid Atlantic Roadracing Club (MARRC) school and licensing clinic. Then there will be two full days of exceptional motorcycle road racing competition on Sunday and Monday.
"This is only the 3rd round on the ASRA Michelin Pro Series schedule, so championships are in-the-making at this point.", remarked Elliott, adding "Now that Amateur riders can compete in the ASRA classes, with their own points and trophies, the mix of racing strategies and styles has become more diverse. The field sizes have increased too, which provides more contingency."
Due to some confusion, we have extended the Pre-Entry Deadline for the Blackhawk Practice Day, Sat. May 21st, hosted by CCS. You have until Noon on Thursday, May 19th to fax your pre-entry to the office for the Practice Day only.
Just fax in a standard Pre-entry form with the Practice Day marked (bottom of form) to 817-246-2977. The cost is $125.
Celebrating its 10th year, the ASRA Michelin Pro Team Challenge endurance series heads to New Jersey Motorsports Park this weekend, May 13-15, for its 4th round on Friday at 3:45pm.
This event also marks the first running of the Atlantic Team Challenge, a new endurance series established this year by New Jersey Motorsports Park, with the same rule set. It will run in conjunction with the Michelin Pro Team Challenge race.
"The first year of the 200mi/250K Team Challenge was 2001 when it was introduced by the former National RoadRace Series (sanctioned by FormulaUSA), then under the regime of Clear Channel Motorsports, who I worked for at the time." said Kevin Elliott, owner of ASRA and CCS. "The overall structure of this endurance series hasn't changed much since the beginning, and its popularity continues to grow."
"Our endurance series is unique because both Amateur and Expert riders can participate on the same team, racing on a single machine." Elliott said. "A degree of mentoring develops between the pros and novices which is unparalleled anywhere else that I'm aware of. Because of the experience gained during the Team Challenge, I've seen many riders improve their racing skills by leaps and bounds."
He added, "But, I've never seen the competition this fierce in the history of the series! The Overall Championship points spread for the top 5 spots is only 9 points now. Literally anything can happen during the last half of the season."
The action doesn't stop there! You won't want to miss Saturday and Sunday when the Championship Cup Series riders and SideCar machines take to the track in 29 thrilling races.
Gates are scheduled to open at 7:00am Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
May 4, 2011 - A new class has been created by the Championship Cup Series and will be introduced for the first time at New Jersey Motorsports Park, May 13-15, 2011. Ultralight Thunderbike, a specialized class, will be offered at limited CCS events this season: all 4 New Jersey events, all 3 Summit Point events and the two events at VIR.
"Ultralight ThunderBike is basically a SuperSport 250s class for bikes such as the Ninja and Honda 250, which aren't as competitive in other classes." said Kevin Elliott, owner of the Championship Cup Series. "Single & Twin cylinder liquid-cooled engines up to 250cc as well as Twin Cylinder air-cooled 350cc machines qualify for this class. Although some restrictions apply, bikes must be completely stock OEM for the most part and run street tires."
Riders can enter the Ultralight ThunderBike class at the track using a special post-entry form.
Interested racers are encouraged to read the Ultralight ThunderBike section of the 2011 Rulebook, Addendum 3, pages 55-56, which includes all of the technical information for the class including which bikes qualify and the modifications allowed.
April 18, 2011 - Motorcycle road racers and fans alike will have plenty to do and see this weekend. The best place to get in on all the action will be at the Annual "Heart of America CycleFest" at Heartland Park - Topeka Friday, April 22 through Sunday, April 24, 2011.
"There's something for everyone at this event." said Kevin Elliott, CEO of the American SportBike Racing Association. "With the ASRA Michelin Pro Series, our Michelin Pro Team Challenge Endurance Series as well as Championship Cup Series Twin Sprints, there'll be a frenzy of racing action for every type and size of bike. As an added attraction, the US SuperKarts' high-speed go-karts will be a blast to watch. It'll be a busy and exciting weekend for all."
The Michelin Pro Series points race is neck-in-neck after the events in March and April. With only one point separating the top 3 spots in the Michelin Team Challenge Overall points standings, this weekend's racing at Heartland Park may well be the deciding factor.
As the ASRA Michelin Pro Series riders take to the track for the second time in 2011, all points for Amateurs and Experts in SuperStock, SportBike and ThunderBike are still up for grabs.
Gates are scheduled to open each morning at 7:00am.
Visit www.theussk.com for more information about the United States Super Karts.
April 5, 2011 - The Championship Cup Series will be at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina, April 9th & 10th for another action-packed weekend of motorcycle road racing. It is a Twin Sprints "double racing" event - the entire 40+ classes will run on Saturday and then turn right around for a complete repeat on Sunday. This gruelling schedule is the ultimate test for both man and machine with only the creme de la creme attaining victory.
Joining CCS will be the ASRA Michelin Pro Team Challenge Series for its 2nd round of endurance racing this season. The Team Challenge race is scheduled to run on Sunday afternoon.
The schedule also includes the new Rookies Cup Challenge, first introduced at Roebling Road Raceway in March, which will run once on Sunday. "This class was formed for individuals who have less than one year as licensed racers.", said Kevin Elliott, owner of CCS. "It gives them the opportunity to run a single race with others having similar racing experience."
He added, "The Rookies Cup Challenge is split into 3 classes: GTO, GTU and GT Lights to cover many different bike configurations, and it follows the same rules as our regular GT classes." Interested competitors can register for the Rookies Cup Challenge at the track by using a special post-entry form.
Aaron Stevenson's Cornerspeed will host the pre-event racer practice and licensing clinic on Friday, April 8th.
Participants will be allowed to enter the paddock after purchasing their gate pass beginning on Thursday afternoon. Registration for racers will open on Friday.
For more information about Aaron Stevenson's Cornerspeed Schools visit www.cornerspeed.net
March 7, 2011 - The highly anticipated season opener for ASRA and the Championship Cup Series will take place this weekend at Georgia's Roebling Road Raceway. As racers hit the track after the long winter, the competition is expected to be fierce in each of the 40+ CCS classes as well as in Michelin Pro Team Challenge and Michelin Pro ASRA events.
As an added attraction, the United States Super Karts (USSK), based out of Palestine, Texas, will join CCS/ASRA for their first round of racing this season.
A full day of Racer Practice on Friday, March 11th, hosted by Nate Kern and Brett Zeitz, will preview the Saturday and Sunday racing action.
In addition, on Saturday evening the Championship Cup Series will recognize last year's most outstanding SE riders and officially crown the 2010 SouthEast Region Champions during an awards ceremony.
Gate hours for the CCS/ASRA Roebling Road weekend:
Thurs. March 10: 5pm - 10pm
Fri. March 11: 7am - midnight
Sat March 12: 7am - 10pm
Visit www.theussk.com for more information about the United States Super Karts.
Feb. 16, 2011 - Although we had hoped to add 2 additional dates to our Mid-West schedule this year, we were not successful in coming to terms.
Therefore, the Blackhawk Farms event July 23rd & 24th has been selected to host a full "festival of speed" schedule of events: the ASRA Pro Series, Team Challenge and CCS Twin Sprints.
These changes have been made on both the Nationwide and Mid-West schedules as of today.
Feb. 10, 2011 - Today we posted our 2011 ASRA & CCS Contingency Awards and Requirements form. This is mandatory reading for every rider who participates in our races.
This form explains what is required of you by our Sponsors in order to collect money and/or products from them. It also tells you how much is paid and what classes are included for each sponsor. Note that any marked Pending have confirmed that they will be participating in our contingency program, but the formal contract is still in the works. We will update the form periodically when they are finalized.
Remember - to collect the contingencies offered you must first conform by using the Sponsors' products and attaching stickers on either side of your bikes.
Secondly, and just as important - you must hand in a completed Sponsor Listing Form (once per year unless there are changes), and then a Contingency Claim Form every weekend for each bike you race. ASRA purses are paid as contingencies, so the same rules apply.
Nate Kern and Brett Zeitz will be conducting a Practice Day at Roebling Road on Friday, March 11th, prior to our season opener there.
Morning sessions for the US Super Karts will be held first (four 20 minute sessions) ending at 10:50am. This will allow bikes to hit the track at 11:00am for their practice sessions.
The cost per rider will be $100 if paid prior to March 4; $125 thereafter.
On the license renewal cutoff date, we found our post office box crammed full of license renewals .. so many that no other mail would fit! We are processing all of them now, but because of the large quantity received, it is taking longer than normal.
We've also been getting a huge number of phone calls from riders asking about their number. This only delays the process, so .. please do not call the office regarding this.
We will post lists of the licenses issued on our website, hopefully on a daily basis. (See Below)
Thank you for your support .. and patience.
EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about it! in the >> 2011 License Renewal Mailer <<
